West Coast Plaza - LIVE SANDtastic Sculpturing Event

I kinda had a bad day at work. Was rather pissed off about something...or rather someone? Regardless, I thought of doing some walking around with Hazel & Jayden to blow off some steam and perhaps some retail therapy?

Having just gone to most west shopping areas already, I thought why not West Coast Plaza? It was a great idea since Hazel wanted to bring her bag to ColorWash to do a proper cleaning and maintenance.

When we took the escalator down to the main entrance, I spotted something interesting.

Sand Sculpturing in a shopping center??

5781074345_39685000c4.jpg

OK. You had to do some shots like this here!! Too bad that the sculpture is not really completed. You can still see the "ang mos" behind working hard at it. But it is already starting to look very good.

We thought that this is it. The only one sculpture here.

5781624806_9e9fe4013f.jpg

Nah. I was wrong. There were more in the mall! A pretty nice sight and refreshing to see sand in a shopping mall.

This is the poster for the event.

I think this is one of the nicer sculpture but it is still not complete. Btw, bringing my Canon S95 everywhere ROCKS.

If you are interested, you should go down there to see them live in action!!

Milestone - From Crawling to Sitting Position

Oh yeah! One more milestone achieved.

Jayden is now able to go rather easily from his crawling around position to sitting back up on his butt! This will save us many headache cos he tends to get irritated after a while of crawling since he did not know how to get back on his butt!

5768512110_0b9849310d.jpg

Here is the little boy on his fours, crawling around and playing with the leg of the high chair...

5768512334_71d101bd66.jpg

Then, he decides to sit up. He starts by pushing on of his legs straight and lifting his butt.

5768512568_39a119773f.jpg

Next, he shifts his body weight over to the bend leg side so that the butt can be lowered.

5768512796_0df6bbb206.jpg

Tada! Back on his sitting position!

Now I wonder how soon will he be able to really start walking. Haha. Impatient daddy!

Milestone - Jayden's First Tooth

I have been waiting for these little teeth to grow forever! And it really took some time for it to grow.

5764860052_2586342b12.jpg

We first caught sight of the teeth coming out on Day 238. Before that, we have been routinely checking on his gums to see signs of growing teeth. You probably cannot see clearly the teeth, but they are the front incisors, just poking out of the gums. If we use our fingers to feel it, it is pretty obvious that there are teeth coming! And so, that marks 2 of the 20 baby teeth! Yups, a baby will grow maximum of 20 little whities when he reaches about 3 years old. Our little Jayden is growing two at the same tim, which is pretty normal.

Baby teeth are known to be growing in this order. (Well, mostly, you can see that Jayden's teeth is a little late....)

  • 6 months: lower central incisors – cutting teeth
  • 7 months: upper central incisors
  • 7.5 months: lower lateral incisors
  • 9 months: upper lateral incisors
  • 12 months: lower first molars (bicuspids) – grinding and chewing teeth
  • 14 months: upper first molars
  • 16 months: lower canines (cuspids)
  • 18 months: upper canines
  • 20 months: lower second molars
  • 24 months: upper second molars
5764860182_0895e090ee.jpg

Almost a month later, this is just how much it grew. Still no sign of the upper middle teeth! And we are eagerly waiting for it!

Jayden returns to Baby Spa

After a long five months away from the Baby Spa, we decided to bring Jayden back again. We went back to the same place that he did his first and so far, only hair cut. Baby Spa @ HabourFront.

5754388267_abff16d27c.jpg

I think he really looks very blur. He must be thinking..."What am I doing here?"

5754934566_e75bbba58c.jpg

After changing, Hazel put him on the edge of the tub and let him feel the water with his feet....just for a little while...

5754934860_4596906f50.jpg

OK. Time to go into the tub!

5754935086_f33daa3edd.jpg

The face of fear. He was really really scared when we placed him into the float.

5754935626_5a945529f5.jpg

After a while, he starts to get a little more easy...

5754390051_a20bf52d32.jpg

But he kinda lost his usual bubbly and active self. No matter how much we tried to make him smile, he still look at us with a blank look.

5754390383_ccaaf1ffe0.jpg

It was really only after quite a long time that he starts to pull things around and kick a little. He keeps trying to cross his legs underwater and just plainly refuse to kick.

I am really grateful for the staff there as we were given a longer time in the tub than allowed. I guess they know that Jayden needs more time to get used to floating on the water after five months away from this.

I can't wait to bring him to big pools where I can go into the pool with him!

Dads For Life Conference 2011

All Daddies out there should attend this conference, including me! But it is really unfortunate that I have an important presentation to do on this Friday and would have to give it a miss!!

Milestone - Tummy Up Crawling

Recently, I notice that Jayden is really starting to get a lot more steady in his crawling skills. He used to be only able to do leopard crawl, i.e. using his hands and legs to shift around without his tummy ever leaving the floor. Now, he is getting the hang of crawling on all fours.

And tonight, he did a nice little demo.

He actually started from the end of the playmat on the far side of the wall you see here. I only managed to start taking his photos when he reached here.

5751422134_a11a6b754a.jpg

Jayden pausing for a while to pose! (with his drooling saliva)

5751422490_9bacf42594.jpg

Ok, time to continue the journey. Where are you going?

5751422756_c429d0676c.jpg

Pause again. Wow, first time he came here. What is this black thing? *touches the door frame*

5750879415_58a398c2f6.jpg

After a while, he got bored again. And he continues....

5751423494_1c2d07bfdc.jpg

Ok. Lie flat and take another short break.

5750880063_072dddc521.jpg

Excited!! What did he see?

5751423958_205f782bc4.jpg

Haha. Daddy is using his Apple Music toy to attract his attention!

5750880489_634593b0a1.jpg

But another thing caught his attention. Hmmmm, a socket!

5750880745_9652f0d3b7.jpg

Never mind, my apple more interesting.

5751424724_5a23b6fea1.jpg

Ok ok. Jayden got really tired and full of sweat! Started to get cranky and cries. Time to break and have dinner!!

5751425096_9e28d5d82c.jpg

I guess this marks one of his most important milestone before being able to walk! He is now an extremely active boy who is full of smiles and energy!

GDW #006 - Prometheus Ocean Diver GMT

5706717921_753e39df8d.jpg

The Prometheus Ocean Diver GMT marks the first diver watch that I have owned. I love the way this watch come about into existence. The watch was designed by Brian F. Green and was a result of a competition at WatchUSeek Forum. There are actually three versions of it, the Day/Date, GMT and Chrono version. The one that appeals most to me was the GMT version. Do you know that it was actually due to be manufactured using the Seagull ST16 automatic movement? But after many discussions, the production was finally shifted to Switzerland.

Watch Specs:
•    Diameter: 44.00 mm (measured from top ring)
•    Length: 51.40 mm
•    lug width 22 mm
•    Swiss Automatic ETA 2893-2 movement
•    C3 superluminova
•    1 year warranty from the local retailer
•    Sapphire crystal
•    Swiss Made
•    300 meters water resistant
•    Silicone strap
•    Limited edition of 500 watches (mine is 100/500)
Before I go further, do note that I am in no way an expert in the world of watches having just started off with my collection.
First Impressions
Overall, the watch looks simple and rather retro in style. The black silicon strap is a dust magnet but it is really soft. The additional red silicon strap does not look to be attracting as much dust but I don't like I will be changing into that bright red strap. It comes in a nice little case unlike many other watches that has a huge case/box. It's a pity it does not come with strap changing tools.

Case & Bezel
5707282612_d44d85401d.jpg

I like the case. It is stainless steel 316L with a nice matt finish achieved by bead blasting. And I like the little holes on the edge of the bezel. This gives it a little more style. The bezel is a unidirectional internal rotating one. It is also the first watch that I have which features this. Interestingly though, the crown doesn't need to be screw down.
5707282380_ac52bf6038.jpgO
On the case back, it is partly polished giving it a rather nice look. On it you can see the name of the designer, some specs and of course, the number of the watch. Mine was 100/500, there was 93/500 left in the shop but I think 100/500 looks nicer!
Dials, Hands and Movement

5707282202_d8255cf582.jpg
Luckily, it is not really crowded with words on the dial. I like it that there is no other wording on the dial except for the brand name. Anymore would have made it look really messy and crowded. This is my first GMT watch and it like how the GMT hand looks, not overly powering the hour and minute hand and since a nice touch to the overall design. This uses the ETA 2893-2 GMT movement which can only be found in many other high end watches. So, it is really very value for $$! I was quite surprised that when setting the GMT hand, it jumps by the hour. Cool. Really saves time!

Crowns
5706717145_794575f3a5.jpg

The crowns are a nice size to handle. It has this little bumpy pattern which makes it very easy to grip onto.

Lume
5707282926_9cc04fdc39.jpg
I love lume and this watch uses the C3 superluminova. It really GLOWS while it has just receive some charge but the lume kinda fades really quickly. I have not yet tested how long it can last but many people are saying that it should be able to last for at least 4 hours. Other than that, I like it that it is absolutely easy to read in the dark with the lume on.
Strap
5706786213_049f2ff898.jpg

I think this strap is a love it or hate it design. My wife doesn't really like it but personally, after wearing it for some time, I love it. It is really soft to wear it and it does not feel uncomfortable if you really tighten the strap. The downside is that it is a horrible dust magnet.
Wearing it
5707350902_0e43f84c2e.jpg

That's me with my Prometheus Ocean Diver GMT. And my first write up on a watch!
Do leave comments! I am happy to be learning more from the many pros out there.

Singapore Elections 2011 - Your Vote is Secret!

It's going to be time to vote! This time around with 82 seats out of the 87 seats contested, it is a very much more interesting event than it is before. Social media is also playing a huge influence on this event. My favorite? See the Kate Spade episode of PAP Tin Pei Ling.

5679725899_d97f0b5d3e.jpg

And I am seeing hundreds of tweets and status updates on facebook about all the various rallies happening in Singapore. Youtube is also very much alive with videos taken by many supporters and fans from all various political groups.

But the question is...."WHO WILL YOU VOTE?"

Do you believe that "Your Vote is Secret?"

Interestingly, not many of us really do. I made a innocent comment during one of my lunch breaks with my kakis. It turns out that they are fully convinced that our each and every single vote is known to the ruling government.

"What else is there a need for the serial numbers?!?!" they exclaimed.

Well, the answer is here. Click on to 1:45 and listen.

It is worrying that many of us, the highly educated ones are afraid that if we do not vote for the PAP government, we will lose our chances at promotions, getting our young ones into PAP kindergartens, etc. I really do hope that there are not too many ignorant people out there.

Vote wisely. And I will, not in fear and certainly not because I think some change is good. Think and cast your vote.

In SDP rally – VW: Your vote is secret. Maruah will be checking to make sure no shenanigans. If Wong Kan Seng cannot keep eye on one prisoner in Whitley, he cannot keep track of 2 million voters!
