Cautious around new things...

Jayden has started to be more wary of his surroundings and he loves his play area in his room. Whenever we put him there, he knows that it is his playtime and will crawl around picking up toys and bitting on other toys.

Recently, we got him another new toy.

5863507416_84eddc0355_z.jpg

不倒翁. A toy that will stand right back up no matter how you hit it.

5863507852_1b88b1a930_z.jpg

Jayden was given an introduction to his new toy.

5862956929_fd18c478f2_z.jpg

After we pumped and puffed the penguin up. Jayden was afraid of it and kept a distance from it.

5863508188_f25c9668e0_z.jpg

I shifted the penguin a few times and he keeps looking out to make sure that it is far away from him.

5862957303_2b83b26a9c_z.jpg

And when I placed the penguin directly in front of him. He cried and crawled away at top speed! It is quite funny that he is bigger in size than the toy penguin but he is scared!

5863509316_9cf5a85f1a_z.jpg

But things got better the next day. He started to touch the penguin.

5863510030_dd0031c2b2_z.jpg

And hit it! Guess he is not the timid Jayden after all.

Jayden & Bronchitis

Jayden is having another bronchitis episode again. =(

Just a few days ago, it started off with him coughing and having fever.

5863374134_58e854a8f0_z.jpg

He was also strangely found in this position during one of the mornings where he was sick. Guess he is tired from the constant coughing at night and not being able to sleep well. His coughs got worse over the days and the fever didn't subside. Trips to the normal GP did not really work.

Today, his fever went up again and we had to get him to see a PD fast. The recent few trips to Kidslink at CCK was not bad. The medicine worked like a charm and so we went back again.

5863372750_9ea9ca3ac1_z.jpg

He was a little cranky today but very much an active boy. For a baby that is sick and has difficulty breathing, he is really too active.

5863373134_2a3353a58b_z.jpg

The PD said that his airways were inflamed again. This time much worse than previous trips. And he has to be put on the nebulizer again to open up the airways for him to breathe more easily. The last time that we were here, he screamed and cried like hell when on the nebulizer. So, we were prepared for it now.

5863373392_da4d38857e_z.jpg

Much to our expectations, he screamed, kicked around, struggled as Hazel hold him tightly and me holding on to the mask to ensure that the mist/fumes gets into the system. He cried and cried. Hazel told me that she has never seen him cried so badly ever... sigh~ And so, after approximately 30mins upon finishing the nebulizer treatment, we went into the consultation room again to review.

5862823431_0f4d09f9f7_z.jpg

This was the result. A second time to be put on the machine. The PD was not really satisfied with the result and Jayden has to go on it again. This time round, he did not cry.

5862868543_d879b9aa6c_z.jpg

He was sleeping. The poor Jayden must be too tired from the bad sleep he had the night before. He was constantly coughing and waking up (and waking Hazel) the whole night. Coupled with the crying from the first round of nebulizer, he must be really tired. He practically slept through the entire dose of the second nebulizer.

5862868811_594d7492e5_z.jpg

That's how it is done. No fun. Hazel looks really tired in this photo. And so we went in for the review again. We were shocked on what the PD told us. Jayden is still not really getting much better. He asked us to put him on one more round of the nebulizer. That is really sad. It is the first time that Jayden has to be put on the machine for so many times, three times!!!

5863373874_68e045eb13_z.jpg

During the third time, he was fully awake. Though he cried, it was much better than the first round of nebulizer that we had today. And again, for the third time, we went back for a review after finishing the nebulizer. The PD is still not really satisfied with what he is hearing from Jayden's lungs and we were given a device so that the Ventolin can be administrated at home.

5863374444_2a292e2018_z.jpg

This is it. 4 times daily, even during his sleep. And if Jayden still does not get better during our review with the PD on Saturday, he might have to be admitted to the hospital to be put under constant medication and care.

Sigh~

If you have suggestions on how to prevent episodes of bronchitis happening, please do let me know. It hurts us to see him on SO MUCH medicine.

Jayden's Ninth Month Developmental Checkup

We went to get Jayden assessed for his nine months old developmental checkup. It was also the first time that I went together with Hazel for any of these type of checks.

5843763184_954af94c26_z.jpg

We were a little late for the appointment. Jayden's appointment was at 1415hrs and we reached there abour 1425hrs but it didnt took long till it was our turn. It was also an coincidence that I saw one of my colleagues there!

5843763398_8d434055f6_z.jpg

5843217575_31183067d1_z.jpg

I got Hazel to take a photo of us. Same same? Haha

The development check has 5 items to be done from what I have seen.

1. Hearing test
5843763804_507819c464_z.jpg

These are little colorful blocks that the nurse will throw to attract Jayden's attention while she uses an sound emitting device to test his hearing.

5843763972_8ac207f82a_z.jpg

It looks something like this. One of the parent holds the baby. The nurse throws the cubes on the bed in front to attract his attention and then she uses sounds of various frequency to check if the baby turns his head towards the direction. Jayden fared average for this test. His reaction towards higher frequencies are a little slower than the reactions for the lower frequencies. Just something that we have to monitor over the months.

2. Balance and Standing
The nurse told Hazel to put Jayden on his feet while getting Jayden to support himself using his arms to hold onto the chair. PASSED.

3. Motor Skills
Jayden was given a few items, like a small rubber band and the cube. The items was placed on the bed with Jayden sitting on it. Jayden reached out to grab those items. PASSED.

4. Height Weight and Head
Jayden is at 50 percentile for his weight and 75 percentile for both his height and head circumference. OK. CLEARED.

By the way, did you know that such developmental check ups are free for Singaporeans?

My First Father's Day

Father's day in Singapore is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. And this year, it falls on 19th June 2011. We had to bring little Jayden for his developmental checkup today (more on it on another entry) and we decided that we might as well celebrate it earlier today!

We first went back to Toys'R'Us to do a exchange for the "torn" inflatable gym that we bought last week. I have ppl emailing me to ask which is the one that I got. So here's a picture for you.

5842075759_8dd5c624ea_z.jpg

And yes, we have absolutely no problems exchanging the faulty set for another one. No questions ask. Just produce the receipt and if it is within 14days, they will do a refund or an exchange. I am so pleased with the service.

5842071679_f6c086a63f_z.jpg

But our little Jayden seems quite moody today.....Hmmm....

After settling the exchange at Toys'R'Us and getting one more toy for Jayden, we head over to Tony Roma's to have my very first father's day dinner with Hazel and Jayden.

5842072279_115ca7ce2a_z.jpg

I really wonder why he is so moody and cranky today.....

5842620732_5509707cf5_z.jpg

And then suddenly, he got interested in something.....

5842620180_b2f6c7625b_z.jpg

The Kois in the Koi pond caught his attention. But it wasn't for long and then he started crying out loud.

5842621010_c239a61f56_z.jpg

I quickly got Hazel to help me take a shot of me and Jayden before we swap places and Hazel put Jayden to sleep in his pram. Does it look weird in the shot? Yups. I was not holding the camera to take the shot. I was just putting my hands in that direction so that Jayden can tilt his head up and try to get him to look at the camera Hazel is holding!

5842622060_a8907f914b_z.jpg

Hazel quickly settled Jayden down to get him to sleep. Her hands are still busy patting him to sleep in this photo.

And food photos!!

5842621412_bace68d894_z.jpg

Our favorite! Calamari rings! Yum Yum. Tony Roma's version is not too bad too.

5842073525_fabbd056c0_z.jpg

And root beer float for both of us!~

5842074473_a2e2002532_z.jpg

This is our main course for the day - The Combo Feast. Two piece of chicken + ribeye steak + ribs + corn.

5842622856_3b8c0dbe22_z.jpg

Another angle. We both thought that the ribeye was quite good. In fact, I was saying it is rather normal but having bitten more pieces of the beef, it is quite good. The ribs that we had was also nicely cooked. The only downside was that it wasn't as soft as I would like it to be. The chicken was not to our liking and the colesaw have some weird taste that both of us didnt really like.

Overall, we think that the dinner was not bad and will come to the place again!

5842623274_f32bb44b33_z.jpg

We walked around and saw this "Bob the Builder" stuff at Milienia Walk. Tried to take a shot and this is already the best out of so many shots.

5842075495_e600634087_z.jpg

I guess it will be time soon that we can put Jayden on this type of machines soon, drop a coin and let him enjoy.

So how did you celebrate your Father's Day??

Safety in the car

When do you need to turn the rear facing car seat to forward facing?

I always thought that it is based on age and that I only need to turn my combi car seat to face forward after his first birthday. But I was wrong!!

5836186824_9214086df3_z.jpg

The overlapped region between rear facing and forward facing is 9-10kg. As stated clearly on the seat itself, we can actually turn the car seat to face forward when Jayden is 9kg and above.

And he is! With the car seat back at my place for a through wash down (after Jayden vomitted in it), it was time to change over to the new direction.

5836186580_8915a739e5_z.jpg

And so, we readjusted the straps to his size and placed him on it for a trial run.

Fits perfectly. And looks like he is happy with it!

5835636945_7635856039_z.jpg

Is it only us or is Jayden taller than most babies for his age of nine months old??? We had a few comments from strangers that was surprised when we told them that Jayden is nine months old. And he looks about the same height as a few of the baby that are older in the infant child care.

hmmmm....

Vote for Daddy NiVleK

Well, I am terribly busy for this past weeks and will be for the next few weeks to rush off and finish the final phase of my project.

With that, I had to excuse myself for the event that OMY.sg is organizing for bloggers to get together, do a video interview and rally for more supporters.

Seeing the current state that I am in, I guess I will be pretty much losing the 30% of the chance since I am at the lowest voted blogger in the family category.

But that will not be if you vote for me now, and vote for me daily!!

5836132644_40e4b91bda_z.jpg

How can you not like our cute little Jayden here, who is now looking straight at you!

So...

Go on. Click on it now!

Why did I start a blog, particularly one that centers around parenting issues and my little one?

Starting a blog is not new to me. I kinda started, stopped, started again but never update my previous blogs. I have always wanted a place to keep my nice memories and also to share with others what good/bad things that has happened. Having my little Jayden is really a blessing to us. We love him lots!~

I have also noticed the lack of daddies blogging and I thought, hey why not I am the one of the rare breeds that blogs about parenting? There must be others out there wanting a piece of how the male parent thinks. And males always think different from the females!

OK.

Did you really click and vote for me????

Go on, don't be shy.

Getting the bogey out - Cleebo Mucus Tweezers

Sponsored Review

Bogey, mucus, nose waste or whatever you call it is usually a little annoying to parents. Especially parents like me who only have their first baby. I always see Hazel trying to use all sorts of method to try to get those yucky slimy stuff out of Jayden's nose. Similarly, I also do that, usually using whatever I can find nearby. (Oops) But we usually use either tissue paper or cotton bud to remove them and it is really not that fantastic. It is a hit or miss affair since a baby's nostrils is so small that you cannot possibly stuff your smallest finger into the nose with a tissue and attempt to "dig" the bogey out. Cotton buds are also rather difficult as you can only "scrape" the area in attempt to get it out. And there is the danger of over inserting the cotton buds too deep into the baby's nose.

It is worst when Jayden hates people trying to fiddle with his nose. He absolutely HATES it. You don't really have to put any thing in his nose. You just have to touch his nose and he will scream his lungs out. It's that serious. That's why we need to shorten the duration of his screams. And using miscellaneous items around the house to get the bogey out isn't really the fastest and safest solution.

Thankfully for us, we got the chance to try out this product from Sophie & Friends, Cleebo Mucus Tweezers. More information on this product after the break.

5823911436_1ae33eeb55_z.jpg

5823911790_a4933c38c6_z.jpg

Cleebo's main objectives focused on: safety, hygiene, robustness, user-friendliness, child-friendliness, and ultimately effectiveness. Cleebo is essentially a pair of uniquely shaped ABS plastic tweezers with inter-changeable Medical Grade Silicone end tips. The end tips come in 5 different vibrant colours to encourage the child's participation and co-operation. The ends also include many safety features including: depth limiting design with end tabs to prevent excessive insertion, an absence of any sharp ends, tight fit to tweezers to prevent them coming loose, and they are made from silicone which is a relatively soft material.

Before we tried it on Jayden, I gave it to him to take a look.

5823911604_71e9ac8f80_z.jpg

Checking out the product....

5823911952_c9a71002cc_z.jpg

This is the casing which the brightly colored medical grade silicon tips and the tweezers comes in.

5823348483_e6902d104b_z.jpg

I passed it to Hazel who tried to use Cleebo on our little Jayden. And to no surprise, he was upset when we touched his nose.

5823912320_deb7f7f575_z.jpg

You can see that the little tips are small enough to fit into the nostrils of little Jayden who is just over nine months old.

5823348863_a17ef7b17d_z.jpg

Jayden looking at me after we performed the "operation." Haha.

5823912574_70030d7d18_z.jpg

A close up on Cleebo and its four other tweezer tips.

I feel that this product is really not bad. The entire tweezer and tip can be either put into your normal sterilizer or clean it in hot water. Note also on the "wings" at the tips of the removable silicon. Those are designed to prevent over insertion of the ends into your child. It's great for us since Jayden HATES anyone or anything touching his nose and the inside of it. We do not need to be afraid of over inserting the tips while we rush to remove the "culprit" in his nose! Safety with Speed!

Plus, it comes in many colors and we love ORANGE! Yeah!
