Sushi Tei has always been Hazel's favorite restaurant to go to, and she was craving for another meal there. We kinda lazed around for the weekends as Jayden was not feeling very well and woke up quite late. After some pondering and discussions, we decided to head to West Coast Plaza for their Sushi Tei outlet. We have been to many Sushi Tei outlets, the one we frequent the most has to be either the Vivocity one and of late, the one at Raffles City Shopping Center.
This is our first time at the outlet in West Coast Plaza. And oh, I got a new lens, a Samyang 7.5mm Fisheye lens for my Olympus OMD EM5. It is a manual focus lens and cost MUCH MUCH less than the equivalent Panasonic 8mm lens. Judging from the exaggarated distortions in the photo above, it is rather obvious that it is taken using my new Fisheye lens.
And Jayden starts off the dinner by helping everyone to wipe his table clean clean, very very clean.
I decided to give some new dishes a try - Tarako no Umani or Steam Cod Roe - $5.20. I ordered this as I thought it will be a hot/warm dish and I can't remember the last time I had fish eggs for a meal. This was served cold but with a rather tasty blend of sauce on it. 3/5
This is another dish that we tried - Sakurafu & Nanohana Beef Roll - $11.00. It is basically a thin slice of beef with glutinous rice. The glutinous rice is not the actual rice grains but in the form of rice cake made up of glutinous rice. The beef did not really tasted like beef as the sauce overpowered the taste of the beef. 3/5
Hazel ordered this sushi platter, Kirishima - $26.00. It consist of 18 sushi of various variety. I think the menu for sushi tei has been changed as we could not find the usual sushi platter that we order every time we come to a Sushi Tei outlet. Honestly, I am not a fan of any other sashimi variety except for Salmon so this platter is not really for me or for us. The rice was also a little more mushy than what we are used to. 3/5
One of our standard dishes that we will get, Mini Golden Roll - $11.00. The prawn was quite good and juicy today. Mango was fortunately not as sour as it looks. Still one of our favorites. 4/5
Soft Shell Crab Handroll - $5.20 each. A handroll with half of a crab on it. Like the rest of the sushi for tonight, the rice was a little too soft for our taste and the crab today was not really crispy to the bite. 3.5/5
Overall, our experience here is still okay and I guess we will come back here again if we need to get our Sushi Tei fix urgently.
And since Jayden finished quite a lot of his porridge, he was entitled to his treat of a kiddy ride. And of all the rides there from Thomas and Friends, Bob the Builder and Batman, he choose the Hero. Strange choice, considering he never watches Batman cartoons.
For me I was craving for a COLD COLD drink to cool down and we spotted this ice cream store. I ordered the Mango Smoothie, Regular Sized $4.50 from here. It was yucky. Not cold. Bland. Tasted more like Banana than Mango and I will not call this a smoothie. I threw away the remaining after forcing myself to drink half of it. 0/5
Fisheye protraits is quite fun.
And to satisfy both Hazel's and my craving for COLD stuff, the safest bet was a short drive down to the KOI CAFE at Clementi. Ahhhhh…..Bliss.
I really like the distorted 180 degrees view created by the Fisheye lens. The distortion is not as much as I would like it to be but that is good too since it can be used for more situations. This lens will be a new permanent stay in my camera bag.
